The calculation below gives you an answer in Feet, which is correct with the highway code. But for some reason the DSA has not used these distances and converted the metres answer into feet so the . In the test they will give answers in Metres and Feet. So if you use the calculation use the answer closest to your answer

Here is a link to the highway code braking distance chart

Braking Distances

Calculate the overall stopping distance

Start at 20mph and times by 2, which gives 40, so 40ft. For every 10mph you increase add 1/2 to the multiplier.

E,G,

20 MPH X 2.0 = 40ft
30 MPH X 2.5 = 75ft
40 MPH X 3.0 = 120ft
50 MPH X 3.5 = 175ft
60 MPH X 4.0 = 240ft
70 MPH X 4.5 = 315ft

To Calculate just the Braknig distance subtract the MPH from your answer

E.G

                                     Braking Distance
20 MPH X 2.0 = 40ft      - 20  = 20ft
30 MPH X 2.5 = 75ft      - 30  = 45ft
40 MPH X 3.0 = 120ft    - 40  = 80ft
50 MPH X 3.5 = 175ft    - 50  = 125ft
60 MPH X 4.0 = 240ft    - 60  = 180ft
70 MPH X 4.5 = 315ft    - 70  = 245ft
